Management and Leadership

What is the difference between Management and Leadership in the business world? Some argue that there are clear differences between a manager and a leader, I beg to differ as I believe that an effective manager LEADS...and an effective leader MANAGES...They both refer to the the achievement of organizational goals while controlling and or working with a group of people. They are in fact synonyms. A manager leads with the example and with impeccable interpersonal skills. A manager leads people and things by setting up quotas and or deadlines. A manager leads by encouraging improvements in all aspects of the organization, including the implementation of the most current technology and the expectation that the employees must make the attempt to be current with any and all current design and technology available. Effective managers cannot lead without first polishing their management skills. Effective managers lead work teams to a vision and a mission. In short, a manager must be a leader and a manager, interchangeably.
