A heartfelt thank you...💗 There are no words to express how grateful I am for the opportunity to be a part of this 2018 IDT MA program cohort. I have learned so much and have yet so much to learn that just the thought of it inspires me to keep going. I hope that expressing my opinions regarding this program does not hinder my solid commitment to earn an MA degree as my intention was for the program to grow...improve if you will...I have worked very hard towards my goal success is at my fingertips. I will continue to work hard during the winter session in order to be up to date when I return Spring 2019. Wishing you all happy holidays and a very prosperous new year 2019! http://lizedit4500.blogspot.com

Copyright Law in Education Copyright is defined as a government-enforced monopoly that reserves the exclusive permission to engage in certain activities to the copyright holder, prohibiting the public rom engaging in these activities without proper authorization. In our weekly readings we learned about the importance of ensuring that any material we use from the internet is either with permission from the author and/or to ensure that images and any information obtained from the internet is labeled for reuse or use without restrictions. For instance, when making images online engine searches we must click on tools, then select "labeled for reuse" in order to ensure that we are not violating any copyright laws...even in the education field..."As Harvard Law professor Larry Lessig has written, modern copyright law has made criminals of us all".  He was certainly referring to TRIPS (Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) where full

Differences Among Three Types of MOOC's cMOOC, xMOOC , and pMOOC Two decades ago, you you probably would not be able to find anything online about "MOOC's"... times have changed... The term was coined by Dave Cornier. MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Courses. You can probably guess why the need to coin such a term...yes, the massive online courses are innovative and exciting, although regretfully the course completion rate is very low. Only 2-10 percent of enrollees survive. These are their characteristics: cMOOC is learner role active, instructor role co-learner, learning theory-connectivism, primary pedagogy-knowledge integration, metaphor-"we link movies", development approach-learning design, primary type of assessment-self-assessment, and funding source-seat of the pants funding. xMOOC is learner role-passive, instructor-sage on video stage, learning theory-behaviorism, primary pedagogy-knowledge duplication, metaphor-"we watch movies"

Stacey and Todd's Dilemma from our weekly class readings... In this week's readings we learned about the myriad social media tools and their educational uses. We learned that although both, Stacey and Todd recognize the dominion caliber social media integration has education they are unsure as to how to implement it into their respective fields. They both give credence that effective integration of social medial will require careful needs assessment, instructional design, and facilitation. Both, Stacey and Todd consider the most prominent social media sites such as Facebook, Bogs, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube, and Wiki. They also consider learning activities, with and without social media such as Lecture, Guest Lecture, Readings and Discussions boards (much like we, CSULA 4510 students experience in our discussions boards), Critique, and Research Projects. To conclude, Stacey and Todd both recognize that social media use has become a standard part of everyday life. They both

Why a Podcast?      Why a podcast indeed...well, as it turns out they are easy to make. Podcasts allow you to produce long-form content. Podcasts allow you to create your own show where you are your own guest! or create an interview style format. Podcasts allow you to connect with your audience. Podcasts are free to make. Of course, making a podcast needs some planning, therefore, before grabbing a microphone, take a moment to consider your audience and the content you want to share. Think about whether or not you want to divide the content into several podcasts and consider the length of time you want your podcasts to be. Once you have come up with a plan go ahead and check out this video on how to...You'll be glad you did... http://lizedit4500.blogspot.com/

Criterion-Based and Norm-Based Evaluation Methods/Tools        Due to the large amount of students that might be testing on State or national based tests such as the CBEST, the CSET, the MCAT, etc., these states are scored or measured using the norm-based evaluation as the scores are ranked. These tests take long time to create and to take. Some, up to 6 hours! The students are ranked by their test achievement. The criterion-based test, on the other hand, is usually created individually, for example, by a teacher. These tests are short in duration, typically a one class period. The criterion-based test measures the skills and knowledge a student has mastered and the scores are given in percentages. The teacher utilizes sites such as google forms, kahoot, quizlet, jeopardy/online games, and/or ed puzzle. As an educator it is in the best interest of the students and the teacher to be very comfortable with all these sites.  http://lizedit4500.blogspot.com

The importance of an ePortfolio       Anyone trying to expand or create his or her portfolio must consider sites such as weebly.com, wix.com, or even google sites as these sites offer free services to the users. I have read some of the reviews on some of these and according to my findings it appears as though wix is much more reliable than weebly when it comes to creating a website. For my Instructional Design Technology M.A program at CSULA I am being asked to create 3 different websites at 3 different sites, and based on my research findings I think it would be in my best interest to focus on wix.com and google sites. Creating a portfolio to showcase ones academic, personal, and career-oriented achievements is a phenomenal and contemporary idea. I find that it would be in everyone's best interest to invest some time in creating a personal website. The website should be clean, informative, entertaining, yet, simple and easy to navigate. Once I come up with my three websites I w

Management and Leadership      What is the difference between Management and Leadership in the business world? Some argue that there are clear differences between a manager and a leader, I beg to differ as I believe that an effective manager LEADS...and an effective leader MANAGES...They both refer to the the achievement of organizational goals while controlling and or working with a group of people. They are in fact synonyms. A manager leads with the example and with impeccable interpersonal skills. A manager leads people and things by setting up quotas and or deadlines. A manager leads by encouraging improvements in all aspects of the organization, including the implementation of the most current technology and the expectation that the employees must make the attempt to be current with any and all current design and technology available. Effective managers cannot lead without first polishing their management skills. Effective managers lead work teams to a vision and a mission

eLearning for Employee Onboarding        In my readings of Chapters 10-13 in our Trends and Issues in Instructional Design and Technology I learned about some tips for increasing impact from technology-based learning. These tips were implemented as many administrators and managerial staff have concluded that learning through technology is not effective regardless of the many apparent and appealing positive aspects of it such as low cost, convenience as it can be taken online, and time.        According to our text, in order for any eLearning to happen there are 6 aspects that must be developed and implemented. First, the development of application and impact objectives making it clear to the participant of the expectations of the eLearning. Second, the development of the content to reflect application and impact objects. Third, the design for application and impact where action plans are not only designed, but put to the test. Fourth, the creation of the expected results where par

Constructivism...what is it? And, how can it be taught to future instructional technology designers?      Some of you might be wondering...so, what kind of teaching approach is best to use when the instruction is instructional technology related? I believe the answer is that there is no ONE approach that can be used as a cookie cutter when it comes to this field of education...and to any field for that matter. Consider constructivism for instance. I find this method of teaching very effective as it promotes learning as a process of constructing/making something... making sense of the word. In constructivism meaningful connections between the learning concept and the past experience of the learner is essential to retain new information and to receive the new information positively. Constructivism came to presence in the 90’s. This teacher approach seeks to create a challenge and or cognitive conflict for the student, thus, motivating the student to participate in order to find a reso

7 Characteristics of Instructional Design        This reflection's main focus is the seven characteristics of Instructional design which I read about for this weeks readings. I have always been a fan of seven, superstitious or not, I happen to believe that seven is a great way to organize most everything. From power point presentations to the bullets or the information presented on any given slide, to rules of life, such as the seven deadly sins, etc. In the seven characteristics of instructional design I learned that this teaching concept is a student-centered approach along with six other very effective methods of teaching a concept. I learned that this is a goal oriented process and that creativity is at its core. I learned that this method of instruction focusses on meaningful performance and that it is measurable, reliable, and valid. I learned that it is a self-correcting process and that is typically carried out with a team effort in mind. http://lizedit4500.blog

Info-graphs   So, what are infographics you may be wondering?? Well, by definition, "infographics is a clipped compound of information and graphics represented via graphic visual representations filled with informative information, data, and or knowledge intended to represent information quickly and clearly. Infographics can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system's ability to see patterns and trends". And what is the best way to make the most impressive, accessible, and cognitively attracting infographic software? Well, that is up for debate, however, there are some amazing software programs out there that will make make a pro out of you if you just dedicate some time to navigating and learning about them. And, why should you use infographics? You should use infographics as this method of communication provides compelling information to your audience via graphic visual and cognitive representation. Here is a short video with some

QR Codes  QR Code-an eye opener for me… It appears as though QR (Quick Response) codes have been around since 1994 by Denso wave. Apparently the code is the trademark name for the two dimensional barcode system. Albeit the term was coined or invented in 1994, it was not until 2011 that it became popular. I was always hesitant to download any QR apps, but after I learned about QR codes in this class I have not only downloaded an app, but have been sending text messages using QR codes. I just wished I would have known about how to effectively use QR codes before.  Simply follow these steps and you are in... 1)  Open the QR Code reader on your phone. 2) Hold your device over a QR Code so that it’s clearly visible within your smartphone’s screen.  Two things can happen when you correctly hold your smartphone over a QR Code. The phone automatically scans the code. On some readers, you have to press a button to snap a picture, not unlike the button on your smartphone camera. 3) If n

Google Hangouts So, during class time week two, if I am not mistaken, we learned about google hangouts and how to use them in the classroom, with classmates, and or with our Professors. Google hangouts can be used for work or academic purposes. We learned that this app allows for a group of people working in a project are able to collaborate in real time, to send, and accept hangout invitations and to schedule for future hangout meetings. I had a great time meeting with my classmates in class and working in the class activity about canvas related issues, parking related issues, and even IT related issues...it was fantastic. We had a blast during class time and learned at the same time . If you have not had the opportunity to use hangouts within google, do yourself a favor...try it out! Did I choose the right Master's Degree?         I have pondered on this question since the moment I applied for graduate school. I would like to share with you all that that regardless of the different names the field of Education Design Instruction and Technology has been subject to, Instructional Design is a very dynamic field, and as such it should not be surprising that the name to identify this field has changed at least 5 times since it was first coined in 1920, (approximately).        In the 1920 for instance, this field was viewed with a media perspective in mind whereas in the 1940s with radio invention it was viewed and treated as an audiovisual field. Then there was T.V. In the 1950s this field was not only viewed with an audiovisual perspective in mind, but with the idea that visuals were the primary way to depict technology. Computers!!! Computers were introduced to the population at around the 1960s and 1970s, by then technology was viewed as a process
